This is the twenty-sixth Christmas that Reverso is celebrating, always with a group exhibition and almost always with a theme: Hope, Perfume, From Pearls to the Air, IDEM, Snapshot, Even Trees Are Dreams, among others.
Many artists have participated in these exhibitions, some “in-house” artists and others whom I invited occasionally. They all responded with great enthusiasm, most of the time creating new works for a specific theme and with no guarantee that the economic return would match the effort put into the work.
This year, for various reasons, I didn’t feel the urgency of a theme as in previous occasions. Honestly, I must admit that I didn’t even feel like celebrating Christmas. The family circumstances and the global situation were anything but conducive to festivities. More than ever, I felt the absence of many who have left us—family and friends—who always encouraged me in less creative and more difficult times like this one.
Fortunately, many are still here and always ready to help. Hence the title of this year’s exhibition: FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I couldn’t think of a better or more fitting one, a simple tribute to friends, artist-friends, and my large family who have always supported me and accommodated my lack of time and availability throughout these 26 years of Christmas celebrations.
In this exhibition some portraits illustrate this work, which would have been impossible to do alone. Special thanks to the people photographed, to Irma, the newest member of the team, and to Vivianne Kiritani, who was both photographer and subject, co-curator with me, tireless worker, and patient friend without whom I don’t think I would have completed this undertaking.
