The tension that exists between opposing materials, as well as their material and aesthetic characteristics, transports us to the tension between life-death, between individual being and society, the tension of being ourselves and being what society expects of us. Between the metallic cloaks that protect us and the vibrant strength that comes from within. Between the purity and essence that we are made of, that so quickly emanates from the inside like a crater or shrinks, snaps and shields itself with the external pressure. The tension of life, that fine line that separates the individual from the whole.

Hardwear is the world’s first collection of jewellery made out of scooter frames. For this series Tanel teamed up with Estonian startup BOLT to get old aluminium scooter frames to play with. The result is an upcycled series of earrings, bracelets, and pendants. For the exhibition Reverso (Lisbon) he created one of a kind earrings and bracelets which flirt with pop-art – it´s playful, colorful and yet wearable series. As an addition there are two reflective masks from the scooters which have totally lost their heaviness and seem like they were made out of a frozen lace.
