He started by attending a technical course in civil construction before starting his artistic career. At the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon he is one of the founders of the “Homeostético” movement, created in 1983 with Pedro Proença, Ivo, Manuel Vieira and Xana. He began to exhibit individually in 1986, the year he finished his degree in painting. His works from the 80’s are very marked by painting, but from the 90’s onwards he opens horizons to other media: photography, sculpture, jewelery and installation. He becomes known for his critical intervention in the artistic environment, questioning the artistic, cultural, social and political situation of the country. He is currently Guest Professor at the Department of Visual Arts and Design at the University of Évora.
